To mark the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's death, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing world premiere recordings and rarities by the great Russian composer - most of them recorded at the International Shostakovich Festival in Gohrisch, Saxony, the world's only annual Shostakovich festival.
Always walking the fine line of not displeasing the Soviet regime, Shostakovich rewrote many of his works at the time or did not publish them at all. It was only after his death and the end of the Soviet Union that they were found and reconstructed. Some of these controversial compositions can now be heard on “Shostakovich Discoveries”, including the satire “Antiformalist Rayok”, unpublished fragments of his opera “The Nose” and piano miniatures. Almost 80 minutes of largely unknown music by Shostakovich, interpreted by Daniil Trifonov to Nils Mönkemeyer and Gidon Kremer to Thomas Sanderling: a must for every Shostakovich fan!
