This short-lived band was an offshoot of the 70s Welsh psychedelic band Man. Two of Man's members, keyboardist Phil Ryan and guitarist/bassist Will Youatt, formed The Neutrons in 1973, inviting drummer John Weathers (Gentle Giant), violinist Stuart Gordon (The Incredible String Band) and other musicians. While Man's music was predominantly guitar-based, The Neutrons used mostly keyboards with characteristic Brit-folk moments. Their first album, Black Hole Stars, is an interesting keyboard-based psych-prog with good guitar parts. The second album, Tales From The Blue Cocoons, turned out to be more commercial.
