Marla Gibbs plays Mary Jenkins, a nosy, tart-tongued, but loving housewife who lives at 227 Lexington Place, an urban style apartment building. Her neighbors include Jackee, a stylish, loose, man-hungry diva who often bumps heads with Mary, and other interesting and gossipy characters. This popular TV series ran from 1985 to 1990 with only a few runs in syndication. Marla Gibbs was also known for her character as the wise cracking maid on the Jefferson’s TV show prior to her starring role in 227.
