In Australia, after World War I, a man works at a lighthouse with his wife. One day, they find inside a boat a corpse and a baby of two months old. The couple initially intended to notify the police, but then decide that this was a gift from God, and they begin to take care of the child. A lot of time later, when they take a trip, they discover that they have made the wrong decision and the consequences will be devastating.
