1971. The young and inexperienced British soldier Gary (Jack O'Connell) is sent to Belfast. The place is divided by religion and politics, separating the Protestant areas and nationalist districts, mainly Catholics, whose inhabitants are opposed to British rule. After a riot, Gary ends up being abandoned in a war zone. Alone, injured and terrified, he becomes a pawn in a brutal conflict.
