Il film racconta la storia di Geum-ja, una donna che diventa il polo d'attrazione dei media dopo essere stata accusata del rapimento e dell'uccisione di un bambino. La donna, allora ventenne, confessa il reato dopo essere stata ricattata dal vero rapitore, Mr. Baek, di cui è amante. Viene così condannata a 13 anni di prigione, che sconta trasformandosi in una specie di santa: diventa una donna così buona e disponibile che presto prende l'appellativo di "dolce Geum-Ja". Frequenta la chiesa e aiuta le sue compagne di cella più anziane e deboli.......
