Formed in Perth in late 1980 by guitarist Phil Manning and his former Chain bandmate Matt Taylor, The Matt Taylor Phil Manning Band included Roy Daniel on bass guitar and Ric Whittle on drums. The group was short lived, recording the album Oz Blues in 1980, and then releasing the single "Spring Hill" in June 1981, before disbanding in December later that year. Chain was reformed in 1982 to celebrate the anniversary of Mushroom Records and played at the Mushroom Evolution concert held in that year in Melbourne. After performing at that event, Chain basically reformed from that time and never looked back.
Here is an extract from the Matt Taylor website about this album: "This is the CD that defines Australia's contribution to the world of blues. To his eternal credit, Matt Taylor has never crossed back over the tracks. His personal blues odyssey has been committed, as enveloping and as productive as that of any black American artist his age. His colour has long since ceased to be an issue. He makes blues music because he feels it, because it grows inside him and demands release."
