Information
In the late-17th century, as white settlers in the New World pushed further and further west, Native Americans suddenly found themselves fighting for both their territory and their lives. As a bloody war raged on between the United States and American Indians, many tribes that lost members chose to replace them with white-skinned captives. But occasionally, a curious thing happened: Upon being given their freedom, some "adoptees" chose to stay rather than return to white society.
