Album Title: Zig Artist: Poppy Genres: EBM, Synthpop, Alternative Rock, Post-Industrial
Zig is Poppy’s fifth studio album and her third album on Sumerian Records. The album sees Poppy largely moving away from the rock and metal sound of her previous two albums I Disagree and Flux, instead opting for a sound that is more influenced by alternative pop, dance-pop and electro-industrial. To help shape this sound, she worked with Swedish pop producer Ali Payami, who has produced for big-name acts such as The Weeknd and Taylor Swift. Poppy finished the album over a year before its release, recording over 40 songs for the project.
Described as a more rhythmic and dance-leaning album by Poppy, the project as a whole was born out of her desire to “make music she could dance to”, which became the centerpiece for Zig. Having been a dancer since she was three years old, she sought to merge the worlds of music and dance on one of her albums for the first time. She would incorporate her dance background in the music videos for the album’s singles, which are heavily focused on choreography
