I ripped the Italian audio out of the Dual-language version of this film. The vidstream is the same as that one. This saved around 120 mb in size. This seems to be the only normal sized version of this film, the others are bloated and oversized DVD-copies.

Near to the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ middle I was reminded oddly enough of Team America World Police. ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ TAWP also sets out as a leftist critique of Bush's right-wing ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ America, but switches halfway to make fun of liberals. Manderlay ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ is more layered, however. ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ Grace (Bryce Howard) her father and his gangsters, after having ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ left Dogville come upon Manderlay, an old plantation where blacks ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ are still held like slaves, complete with whippings. ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ Grace uses her fathers gangsters to free the blacks from the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ whites and takes it upon herself to guide the blacks to real ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ freedom. However, this proves more complicated than she first ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ thinks. The storyline of white betrayal and trickery of blacks is ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ maybe a tat too predictable, and Von Trier wisely leaves it ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ pretty quickly. There's hardship as a sandstorm destroys the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ crops. This happened because what seemed a good idea at the time, ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ chopping down trees to maintain the slave cabins, turn out to be ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ a disaster: the trees were not so much a garden for the old ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ missus as a protection for sandstorms. But this is overcome with ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ hard work and determination and it seems that democracy and self- ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ reliance might take on hold on the old plantation. Even the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ relationship with the former owners, now workers on the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ plantation is harmonious. The next step to sent away the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ gangsters, thereby truly leaving the power to the former slaves. ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ What follows, is not really so much as prove, that democracy and ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ true freedom is hard to instill at gunpoint, but more a statement ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ that states it's very hard to change a society just like that. ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ In the end, Manderlay is perhaps not so much a critique of ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ American society, nor of the continued racism, of the still ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ enduring disenfranchisement of African-Americans by whites ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ (even though it DOES strongly speaks out against that in it's end ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ sequence), as it is about paralysis of communities. ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ Or is it? While the film might seem to start out as a critique of ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ white oppression of blacks, stil, and in the middle changes to ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ critiqueing blacks for still enslaving themselves, it turns out not ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ to be neither, nor both. With the revelation at the end that the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ situation at Manderlay was far more a cooperation than a ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ oppression, (Glover as Wilhem: "How dumb do you really think we ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ are?") 'Manderlay' seems wants to tell us that every society gets ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ the political structure it needs, and that societal change is not ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ only hard, but damn slow as well. ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ A real plus about Manderlay is that Von Trier pisses off ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ Americans. They get all upset that a foreigner dares to criticise ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ their country while never having been there, but when they do the ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ same to others, for example Iraq (occupying a country might count ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ as the severest form of criticism), it's supposed to be okay? ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ They expect everyone to applaud? ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ ÃšÃ„Ã„Â¿ Gimme a fat FUCKing break here.
