Lu Jie has no idea her husband Yongzhao is leading a double life until the day she sees him entering a hotel with a young woman. Her world crumbles. Opening with an explosive car crash, the incendiary intro is the catalyst which allows the lives of the seemingly unconnected characters to become interwoven into a narrative that employs the twin themes of infidelity and corruption. Crudely on display is contemporary China's avaricious nature. Director Lou Ye has been banned from film-making in China on multiple occasions.
