All'inizio del film un uomo, Adam Faulkner, si trova svenuto in una vasca da bagno, dalla quale esce dopo essersi svegliato in preda al panico. C'è un'altra persona con lui, il dottor Lawrence Gordon, che, immediatamente, accenderà la luce. I due uomini si trovano in un bagno abbandonato e, incatenati a dei tubi, agli angoli opposti della stanza.
