Sawyer Nelson è in bicicletta lungo la spiaggia, quando un pescatore, chiede aiuto dopo aver trovato un delfino ferito aggrovigliato in una trappola per granchi. Il delfino viene affidato alle cure del Clearwater Marine Hospital, diretto dal Dott. Clay Haskett. La figlia di Clay, Hazel associa al delfino il nome Winter, come ai due precedenti delfini (Summer e Autumn) che vennero rilasciati con successo nell'oceano. A Sawyer viene data la possibilità di vedere Winter anche se all'inizio il Dott. Haskett non è d'accordo, in quanto il ragazzo non è addestrato alla cura degli animali marini.....

A lonely and friendless boy finds and untangles a hurt dolphin that is caught in a crab trap. He becomes very attached to the dolphin when the tail must be taken off to save the dolphin's life. The boy believes the dolphin would be able to swim normally if it was given a prosthetic tail............
